Greenpeace boss Morgan will become Germany’s new climate ambassador

Officials announced Tuesday that Jennifer Morgan, the head of Greenpeace International’s environmental group, will be Germany’s new climate envoy.

She will be playing a crucial role in the center-left government. Germany has pledged that it will increase its efforts to curb global warming by holding the presidency of the Group of Seven major countries.

Officials announced that Morgan would be officially announced in her new role Wednesday by Annalena Baerbock (German Foreign Minister), a member of Green Party. Officials spoke on condition that they remain anonymous because the Cabinet still has to approve Morgan’s appointment, as first reported in German weekly Der Spiegel.

American-born activist, who cofounded Greenpeace in 2016, has been a prominent figure for years in international climate diplomacy.

Morgan warned that companies and countries could use the UN climate conference in Glasgow last year to greenwash their ongoing environmental pollution.
