Dartmouth, NS

The Manager, Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) will report to the Vice President, People and Culture and will oversee all health, safety, and environment responsibilities at CAA Atlantic’s 7 locations across the 4 Atlantic Provinces. This position may be in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia or Saint John New Brunswick

This exciting new position will help to assess, develop, and implement in partnership with the existing team, health, safety and environment practices to ensure that employees, members, customers, and the public are safe. The Manager, HSE will collaborate closely with leaders and their teams to ensure that their safety needs are met. This is a great opportunity for a dynamic HSE leader to put their stamp on an organization’s HSE practices and work with an incredibly collaborative group on our HSE strategy.

Responsibilities

  • Safety training, updating safety programmes, and developing or improving safety policies and procedures.
  • Make sure all employees have the right safety training for their job and that it is current
  • Maintaining a safety training record database
  • Ensure that safety programs and manuals for company employees are compliant with all SWPs/SJPs, and are up-to-date with current legislation
  • Staff must have access to safety manuals and be trained on any revisions, updates or changes.
  • To inspect and report on hazards in the workplace, and to identify solutions to them, you will need to visit the facilities.
  • Assure that tools and equipment are maintained according to safety standards
  • Supporting managers and employees at job sites and facilities by performing spot inspections on a regular basis.
  • Lead investigations into workplace incidents and near misses
  • Managing WCB Claims and Processes
  • To support our contractor network, we need a safety program.
  • Develop, establish, implement, and manage health and well-being related programs that promote optimum health and wellness of workforce.Managing Workers’ Compensation Board claims
Qualifications

You are an experienced safety professional and will actively seek ways to improve safety programs. You can work independently or with staff. You can take action to correct unsafe or illegal activities if you are able to. You are able to recognize new hazards and provide direction to personnel on the spot.

Your education/experience include:

  • 8+ years’ experience in a Health and Safety role
  • 3+ years of experience in a leadership position in Health and Safety
  • Training/education in Safety and Health, with certifications or designations like CRSP, CHSC and/or HSP
  • It is a great asset to receive training in ergonomic assessments and education for all roles, inside and outside the office.
  • Experience in the design and execution of a holistic wellness program is a plus

Skills and abilities include:

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Self-starter with a drive for solving problems
  • Excellent organizational skills, including time management
  • Expertise in managing programs, such as work-life balance, workplace violence/bullying, impairment, mental health, health promotion, wellness program development and stress
  • Ability to deal with sensitive and confidential issues with tactfulness and discretion
  • Ability to travel extensively in the 4 Atlantic Provinces.
