PCA Announces 2021 Energy and Environment Award Winners

Washington, D.C., December 2, 2021 (GLOBE NewSWIRE) — The Portland Cement Association announced the 2021 Energy and Environment Awards winners. These awards recognize outstanding community relations and environmental initiatives that go beyond what is expected. All submissions from plants in the U.S. were reviewed and honored for their environmental efforts in 2020.

Michael Ireland, PCA President and CEO, stated that America’s cement producers continue to invest in research and development of innovative ways to reduce their carbon footprint. These achievements and the industry’s commitment to carbon neutrality throughout the value chain show PCA members’ dedication to energy efficiency, and a more sustainable future.

Recognized for being the Winner for Energy Efficiency

CalPortland Mojave Cement Plant in Mojave, California

CalPortland Mojave Cement Plant Energy Team has been active in the modification and upgrading of their vertical roller mill. A recent upgrade of the mill separator and addition of a supervisory system control system was carried out in an effort to increase the energy efficiency. Further testing revealed that the team could address the possibility of mill overflow and shut down by making additional modifications, including a bottom-hopper cone on each cyclone and a replacement for the mill fan housing.
