Russia’s military drills pose strategic as well as environmental risks to Ireland

Russia will begin deploying 140 warships and around 10,000 sailors from around the globe this week to participate in naval exercises that are expected to last several more weeks.

These drills will be conducted in the Pacific, the Mediterranean, and in a small area approximately 130 nautical miles (200 km) off Cork’s coast, which is firmly within Ireland’s Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ). These drills are what are most worrying for military and political circles.
