Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation invites Tennesseans and others to submit nominations for 2022 Governors Environmental Stewardship awards.
We are proud to recognize Tennessee’s outstanding natural resource protection organizations, Gov. Bill Lee said. These awards recognize those who go above and beyond to protect and preserve Tennessee’s beauty and natural resources.
The Governors Environmental Stewardship awards include 10 unique categories: Agriculture and Forestry. Clean Air, Energy and Renewable Resources. Environmental Education and Outreach. Materials Management. Natural Resource, Water Quality. Sustainable Performance. Lifetime Achievement.
Any person, business, organization or agency, as long as it is located in Tennessee and completed the project during the 2021 calendar years, is eligible. Nominees must be in compliance with TDEC for at least three consecutive years. Self-nominations encouraged.
David Salyers, TDEC Commissioner, stated that many Tennesseans are doing a great job for the state by protecting our environment and using sustainable practices. These awards will not only recognize the leaders in this effort, but they will also provide an example for others to follow.
A panel made up of academic, conservation, environmental, and academic professionals will determine the award recipients. They will be judged on criteria such as innovation, project or program completion, and public education. The deadline to submit nominations is March 31, 2020. The summer of 2022 will bring the announcement of the award winners.
