The Dell Concept Luna laptop is a sustainable laptop that has been designed with the environment in view

Concept Luna is a thought experiment by Dell that combines several ideas in order to improve the sustainability and sustainability of hardware manufacturing. The concept uses less material and requires less energy to create components. It even features a printed circuit board made from flax fiber and water-soluble Polymer as glue.

The Concept Luna is Dell’s answer to its own question: “What if we could push the limits of reuse and drastically reduce the carbon footprint for our products?”

Concept Luna, a Dell laptop designed to highlight sustainability and environmentally friendly practices, was not intended to be sold. Dell claims that if the ideas in Luna were implemented into real products, the company would see a 50% reduction in carbon footprint (as compared to a Dell Latitude7300 Anniversary Edition).

Luna has a motherboard which has been reduced in size by 75%. According to Dell, this could reduce the carbon footprint for making a motherboard by half.

The internal components of the device have been laid out in a way that increases passive heating and reduces the need to use a fan. Concept Luna’s motherboard is located near the top of the device, away from its battery to aid in heat distribution.

Dell reduced the amount required to make Concept Luna, in addition to reducing its carbon footprint. This should also make repairs more simple.

Dell reduced the number screwed used in its design by a factor ten. In general, reducing material usage is better for the environment that recycling or reusing products. The concept device’s body could be opened with only four screws, which is significantly less than other laptops. It would also make it easier to repair the computer.

Concept Luna’s palm rest is easily repairable and can be reused. For easy recycling, the keyboard can be detached from the device’s body.

Instead of using plastic laminates, Dell created Concept Luna with a biobased printed circuit board made from flax fiber. The company also used watersoluble polymer glue.

Although it may be a while before we see a laptop that incorporates all of these ideas in the future, we might see them in the next devices.
