Fiji’s Ministry of Environment is investigating an incident where a large number of marine organisms, particularly fish and shrimps, were found dead in a drain along Jerusalem Road in Nabua yesterday.

After being alerted by concerned citizens, a team headed by Sandeep Singh, Director of Environment, visited the site to collect samples for scientific analysis.

The University of the South Pacifics Institute of Applied Sciences (USP IAS), Laboratory for Biochemical Oxygen Demand, Fecal Coliform and physicochemical analyses received the samples.

According to the ministry, it is not yet clear what environmental changes could have led to the death these marine organisms.

It stated that it would update you once the laboratory has returned the test results.
