It’s not just extreme weather that’s posing a threat to the planet. The environment is also being impacted by conflict.

More than a decade into the war in Syria only small areas of the north of the country remain outside the control of Bashar al-Assad’s regime.

These regions are dominated a patchwork militant groups who have managed against Damascus’ government to keep the conflict at a standstill.

Aleppo’s countryside is awash with basic necessities. As winter continues to bite, diesel generators are in high demand.

And it’s a demand that is taking a huge environmental toll

Fadi al-Halabi, a filmmaker, visited the men and boys who risk their lives to keep the fuel burning. However, this could also lead to the loss of other livelihoods.
