Desmond Tutu was a pioneer in South Africa for Black people. He was born in Klerksdorp, Transvaal in 1931According to the Nobel Prize website,, At first, he thought he would follow his father’s path and become a teacher. After graduating from the University of South Africa, and teaching for three years at a high-school, Tutu decided that he would study theology in England. He earned a Master’s degree in Theology and was ordained to priesthood in 1960.
