Environment Canada issues winter weather advisory to Hamilton for travelers: Travel can be dangerous

Environment Canada issued a winter weather advisory for Hamilton Friday afternoon, warning that travel may be dangerous Saturday night and Sunday morning.

Snow is expected to fall over the area late Saturday afternoon or Saturday evening, they said, which may be “hazardous” as untreated surfaces are expected to become “snow covered and icy.”

The snowfall will continue through Sunday, with peak rates of one-two centimetres per an hour possible. Sunday afternoon will see a total of five to ten centimetres.

Motorists should expect hazardous winter driving conditions and “adjust travel plans accordingly,” they said, and should consider postponing non-essential travel until weather conditions improve.

They said that the snowfall was caused by a low pressure system moving south of Lake Erie Saturday night. However, there is still uncertainty about the track of this weather system.

The snowfall amounts would be lower if the low-pressure system tracks further south.
