House Republican, Democrat say political environment on Capitol Hill is 'toxic'

“It was just before we adjourned probably to the Christmas break, one member of our team had their words taken down. Usually, you just have to apologize. You just say, “You’re wrong.” And then you just sit down, and life continues. He couldn’t talk the rest of his day. We are constantly receiving very serious threats at home. The tone becomes more and more severe. It’s quite toxic. I’ve never seen anything quite like it.

“I want the American people think about what’s going on in our country, that this type of hate, this fear is occurring in communities across America,” Dingell stated. “We need to be very concerned about our democracy. We need to find a way to disagree with people but do it civilly and agreeably. This really has me very worried.

Upton and Dingell were both questioned about the Jan. 6, attack on Capitol. It was an example how lawmakers came together to oversee oversight despite a turbulentpolitical climate and some Republicans covering up the riot by former supporters President TrumpDonald TrumpBiden could be facing midterm reckoning regarding Supreme Court Reform Joe Manchin, the climate Grinch Trump spokesperson, claims he is cooperating more.
