Nithya Raman will host the Earth Day event at Griffith Park

LOS ANGELES, (CNS) Nithya Rajan, a Councilwoman for Los Angeles, the Department of Recreation and Parks and Friends of Griffith Park will celebrate Earth Day tardily with a morning of gardening, hiking and other activities at Griffith Park.

Saturday’s event will begin at 8:30 am with Raman giving remarks and volunteers planting 100 Ferns along the Fern Dell streambed. Courtney McCammon, Department of Recreation and Parks ecologist, will lead a nature hike at 9:30 am.

Ramans office will also host an Open-Air Eco Village Fair from 9:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. It will feature the nonprofit LA Compost and the Neighborhood Council Sustainability Alliance, as well as the nonprofit Habits of Waste and LA Sanitation/ReycLA, South Coast Air Quality Management District and the LA-based women’s-led collective Narrated Objects. The non-profit school of field environmental philosophy Biocitizen and community garden At The Birdhouse.

Participants can sign up at 2333 Ferndale Drive. Parking is available at Section 9 on the southwest side Fern Dell Drive.
