Markey stated that the climate crisis has only gotten worse since I introduced the Green New Deal together with Congresswoman Ocasio-Cortez. We must act immediately to provide justice for the communities at the frontlines of this crisis, and to create millions of green-collar job opportunities to save our economy as well as our planet. I am proud to stand with my Senate colleagues and a whole generation of climate justice advocates in the fight to create a Green New Deal.

The pledge was signed by more than 50 organizations, including Sunrise Movement and the Working Families Party, Our Revolution and Public Citizen.

Sunrise has repeatedly mentioned environmental and green issues as a key motivator in a midterm season that is expected to be unfriendly for Democrats. Sunrise also drove record levels of turnout in 2020.
